“A Pirates Life For Me” will be located at the north end of the Harbor, known as “Pirates Cove.”  There will be a Pirate Battle Show each day as well as a pirate costume contest, pirate entertainers, and even Capt. Jack Sparrow.

“In fact, as part of their pirate adventure, a visitor can come dressed like a pirate and have their picture taken in an authentic pirate setting.  Locals and visitors alike won’t want to miss this fun opportunity to be a pirate for a day,” commented Liz Rhea, Past Chairman of the Oceanside Chamber Board of Directors and entertainment chair for Oceanside Harbor Days.

Rhea added, “This year, we have also added a second stage for live entertainment that will allow us to feature an impressive new line-up of bands and entertainers. We are anticipating crowds of people to come out just to enjoy their favorite group that will be performing.”

From magicians with comedic flare to classic Rock’n Roll and Irish Fusion bands, the 2008 Oceanside Harbor Days is going to feature some of the most popular entertainers in the area.  This year’s schedule includes the Fender Benders, Igniters, Clay Colton Band, Modern Day Moonshine, Atomic Groove, The Burnsville Band and Alex Woodard on the Harbor Days Stage.

The Pirate Stage in Pirate’s Cove will feature Caribbean belly dancers, Smoothini (illusionist and magician), Fiffin Market, Skelpin, LeperKhanz, a Caribbean bird show, Sligo Rags, Silent Planet and The Bleeding Irish..

Also brand new this year, A Pirates Dinner Show will be held at the Jolly Roger Restaurant on Sat., Sept. 20. from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  This is a special one night event and reservations are required.  Please call 760.722.1831, for more information and reservations.

The 2008 program will include the following Harbor Days’ signature events:

Fishing Derby: Guests swarm around the fishing pier in order to witness youngsters cast their lines for the biggest fish.

Nail and Sail: Spectators are entertained as sailors sink or swim in this contest which pits brain against brawn as teams build and navigate a seaworthy craft around a short, but treacherous course.

United States Marine Corps and Navy Static Displays: Whether you’re a kid or a kid at heart, everyone has a great time crawling around these massive military machines that are on display at the Oceanside Harbor Beach.  It’s a great opportunity to connect with our local military and learn more about their diverse responsibilities in the military.

Opening Ceremonies for Harbor Days will take place Sat., Sept. 20 at 12:00 noon at the Harbor Stage.  The ceremonies will feature Honorary Commodore Byron Jessup, Ms. Oceanside singing our National Anthem and a Color Guard provided by the Unites States Marine Corps.
